Reflect. Reimagine. Recommit: Protecting San Diego’s Nonprofit Workforce
An overview of our gathering that created movement and connections in support of San Diego’s nonprofit workforce.
In November 2025, our community had the honor of partnering with Fund the People to host an afternoon of critical conversations on San Diego’s nonprofit workforce. The event–which was hosted exactly one year after the presidential election–brought together nearly 40 leaders from across San Diego. While many of the participants represented nonprofit organizations, we were also joined by philanthropic leaders, intermediary consultants, and leaders in the corporate sector who all trust that nonprofits (and their workers) are critical vehicles for social change. This community gathered not just to reflect on the many crises unfolding all at once and how organizations were navigating the chaos of 2025, but to honor the lived experience of being a modern day nonprofit worker. We came together to drive a conversation on how to reimagine a sector that prioritizes its workforce.
The 3-hour event was hosted at Mission Federal Credit Unions Corporate Offices, and was bookended by an offering of snacks, beverages, and libations. Halfway through the event, participants were invited into a restorative sound bath as an invitation for everyone to rest, ground themselves, and care for their nervous systems in the pursuit of dreaming up a better future together. The gathering illuminated two important truths: We are not alone, and collective problem-solving is key. Even in the face of a year that was debilitating for many nonprofits and their employees, the group’s excitement around shaping what comes next for Talent Justice in our region was palpable.
We are thrilled to share resources that are a direct result of this gathering, which can be found hyperlinked below. If you work within San Diego’s philanthropic community, there is an invitation that we encourage you to consider—linked below as well.
